#Cosplay is a thing right?
Halloween is right around the corner and all of us here at 4 Guys with Quarters are really excited. Especially Thomas aka ZPCI_Assassin. With comic-cons and gaming conventions growing in popularity it never ceases to amaze us what all you creative cosplayers come up with. This year we thought about doing a bit of cosplay ourselves, but of course we are not sure what to dress up as. Besides that when was the last time we saw Kaos on webcam … oh wait when he was rocking those nifty Nintendo PJs which were not visible to viewers.
Wait when was cosplay first coined? According to this Wikipedia entry it was Nobuyuki Takahashi of Studio Hard who had gone to the 1984 World Science Fiction Convention (WorldCon) in Los Angeles and saw all the people dressed up in costumes. Now although we typically associate dressing up in costumes as a Halloween tradition you can’t forget about Mardi Gras and all the other holidays/events around the world where people dress up to celebrate.
I never realized how many cosplay events there were around the world. Just looking around on Flicker and so many other sites you can see the fandom and the craze behind cosplay. With the addition of SyFy’s show Heros of Cosplay you can see all the hardwork that goes behind making these costumes and it appears to be no easy task. It takes time, money and resources to make it all work out. I will just go to my closest Halloween store and pick a costume.
Drop a note in the comments and let us know what you like to dress up as, and do you cosplay? It would be neat to see our audience #cosplayin’ around. I would write more about it but cosplay is cosplay and theres a whole internet out there of it already. Just see for yourselves.
